Knitting type is pixel type where each pixel is a stitch, and how big that stitch comes out depends on the yarn. Sarah Cadigan-Fried built the Soft Type Collection around that, a set of fonts for knitters who want to chart lettering and patterns, and the number in each name gives the height of the capitals in stitches. Yarndings 12 is 12 stitches tall.
Yarndings is the ornamental member. Its motifs mix Fair Isle and Nordic knitting patterns with printers’ ornaments and a nod to the dingbat fonts of the 1990s. Every face in the collection comes as a Regular and a Charted version, and this file is the charted half; plain Yarndings 12 is its pair.
She had machine knitting in mind, though the project notes allow for hand knitting, needlework and other textile crafts. Working it as Fair Isle? Plan your floats.
