2 older designs went into Amita, matched up by Eduardo Tunni, the Buenos Aires type designer who leads the project, and he gave it the Indian feminine form of the name Amit.
- The Latin comes from Redressed, a script by Brian Bonislawsky that mixes script and italic shapes in an upright style where the letters do not connect.
- The Devanagari is traditionally calligraphic, derived from Modular Infotech’s Devanagari 2310 and 1228.
Because the Latin letters stand apart with open spacing, they stay legible at small sizes, and the Google Fonts notes suggest body copy as well as titling. We’d go along with that for a paragraph or 2 on a menu or a wedding card, no longer.
There are 2 weights, Regular and Bold, with 557 characters between Latin, extended Latin and Devanagari, plus fractions and ordinals for the odd price list. It joined Google Fonts in 2015.
