Mahesh Sahu and Yesha Goshar drew the Odia, and Goshar drew the Latin that travels with it.
They were 2 of the 12 people at Ek Type, the Mumbai collective behind Anek, a family that grew to 10 scripts. The Odia character set goes past the alphabet into the old Odia fraction signs, quarters and halves down to sixteenths, and the isshar sign.
The group agreed on a common pool of visual features and then let each script pull from its own typographic culture. Odia makes that harder than it sounds, because its vowel signs sit above, below and beside the base letters, and the Latin has to live next to all of it without looking like a guest.
On this page you get 8 weights, Thin at 100 up to Extra Bold at 800, upright only. The heavy weights are the ones Ek Type itself points to, with their sharpened terminals and tapering joins, and a headline is where we would start too.
Slashed zero, tabular figures and fractions sit on the Latin side, handy for a form or a timetable printed in Odia and English.
