Anton came first, a single heavy weight Vernon Adams drew for big headlines and banners, and Google used it large and bright in its Chromebook ads. Antonio is his refinement. He added weights, 7 of them from Thin to Bold, and adjusted the drawing so the face could also manage smaller headings, menus and buttons.
The tall lowercase hits you first. Its small letters rise to about 85% of the capital height, so a lowercase word fills nearly its whole line and 24 px of Antonio looks bigger than 24 px of most sans faces. Open up the leading or the ascenders will crowd the line above.
It is narrow too, and a nav bar with 8 items fits where a regular sans would run out of room.
