Jaikishan Patel drew Red Rose for posters, and he was specific about which ones: love stories, romance, drama, thrillers, noir, passion. A display face with a genre list. It started in his magictype project in 2018 and reached Google Fonts in July 2020.
5 weights run from Light 300 to Bold 700, no italics, enough to put a title, a tagline and the credit block of 1 poster in 1 face. The capitals are short against the lowercase, so it often wants setting a size larger than the type around it.
Discretionary ligatures stay off until you call for them. The 595 characters reach into Central and Southern European Latin and Vietnamese as well.
We would not take it under 14 px, and a thriller one-sheet is the obvious first job.
