Warm bagels, 6 for 10
Bread, pastries and sweets inspired Kyungwon Kim’s Bagel Fat One, and it looks it: very heavy letters with every corner rounded off, puffy enough to pass for something out of an oven. The cute stops short of cloying because of 1 detail. Where a horizontal stroke meets a vertical one, the weight changes sharply, and that contrast gives the shapes an edge.
Kim released it through JAMO, a type collective in Seoul that runs workshops for designers making their own faces and pushes experimental Hangul and new ways of pairing it with Latin. Here the 2 scripts share 1 weight and 1 mood. The Hangul covers the KS X 1001 set plus extras and the Latin the Google Latin Plus set, about 3,100 characters in all, with full-width forms for CJK setting.
1 Regular. It is a headline face through and through; we would not set more than a short line in it, and a bakery sign or a snack wrapper is exactly the right size of job.
