The first drafts of Rock 3D were sketches of solid, 3D letters made by disabled artists living in Shibuya, in Tokyo. Design students then took those drawings and turned them into a working font, keeping the feeling of weight and depth that the artists had put on flat paper.
That is how the Shibuya Font project works, as a collaboration between the 2 groups with official approval from Shibuya city, and Rock 3D is 1 of its fonts. Google added it in December 2020.
It covers Latin and Japanese kana, hiragana and katakana, in 1 Regular style. Kanji are not included, so Japanese text with kanji will need a second font. The letters are wide; give it a game title or a poster headline and plenty of room.
