Chicago’s histories of labor and protest are what the Stencil style of Big Shoulders draws on. Patric King made the whole superfamily, condensed American Gothic, for the Chicago Design System and for the people of the city, and the stencil cut gives the city’s voice to those uses.
Text in the name means the smaller optical size, meant for anything up to 72 pt.
9 weights from Thin to Black, in Google Fonts since October 2020. We would put it on placards, banners or the masthead of a union paper. Stencil gaps get lost when the type is small, so give it 20 px at least, and more for the lightest weights.
