Feira de domingo na praça
Bahiana came first, an all-caps display face that Omnibus-Type released in June 2013. Bahianita grows out of it and adds the lowercase. Daniela Raskovsky and Pablo Cosgaya of the Buenos Aires collective designed it, with Nicolas Silva, Oscar Guerrero Cañizares and Yorlmar Campos credited for development.
The look comes from wood carving. Letters are rustic and casual, and to keep that hand-cut feel the OpenType alternates swap in different versions of repeated capitals and figures, so 2 identical letters next to each other do not look stamped. It is very condensed, and the lowercase is big, so a long title fits in a narrow column and stays readable.
With version 1.007 in May 2018 the character set moved to Google’s Latin Plus, which covers 219 Latin-script languages, Guarani among them.
We would use it for titles and short bursts of text, a market poster or a beer label, and keep body text in something calmer.
