Of all the branches in Petr van Blokland’s Bitcount system, Prop is the one that gets kerning. In the Grid and Mono versions every letter is locked to the same 6 pixel slot, so there is nothing to kern; here each letter takes the width it needs, an i narrow and an m wide, rounded to whole pixels, and letter pairs carry their own spacing corrections on top. Van Blokland gave the capital to capital pairs special attention. Set a word in all caps and it should hold together better than a monospaced pixel face can.
Single refers to the stems, 1 pixel thick. The heavier weights do not add pixels; the dots themselves grow, which is how the family gets from Thin to Black (9 weights) without leaving its tiny grid.
The OpenType side is fuller than a pixel font needs. 7 stylistic sets, small caps, old style and tabular figures, fractions, a slashed zero. His own showcase uses Prop Single on a running LED display 10 pixels high, with the ascenders and descenders stretched out by a feature, and that is the job we would give it too.
A tip if you go for layered effects: copies in the same variant share their spacing, so you can stack 2 colors and shift the top one by a pixel to fake a shadow, and the words stay aligned.
