Tonight at the Orpheum, 8 sharp
Matthew Desmond at MADType took Cagliostro from the hand lettering Oswald Bruce Cooper did in the early 20th century, and kept the drawn-by-hand feel while making it usable now. He raised the x-height above the original and calmed some of the quirkier shapes. What comes out is a single Regular with basic Latin and kerning, a sans for titles and short blocks of copy. A book jacket or a gig poster suits it; a long article would ask too much of 1 style.
