Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Tiro Typeworks first made the Latin that became Castoro for the Indic fonts it produced for Harvard University Press, and the scholarly start shows in the accents. The released version keeps the long set of diacritics for transliterating South Asian languages and adds characters for more European ones.
Its roots go further back. John Hudson built the roman as a synthesis of assorted Dutch types from the 16th to 18th centuries, and the italic came from Hudson with his Tiro colleague Paul Hanslow, with help from Kaja Słojewska.
The name is a small joke. Castor canadensis is the North American beaver, serif text faces with wide language support get called workhorses, and so Castoro is a busy beaver.
2 styles, Regular and Italic, with small caps and a caps to small caps feature for acronyms in running text. No bold, a gap in a workhorse; headings will have to come from size or from a second face. We would use it for footnoted academic prose, where those transliteration accents earn their keep.
