Charmonman · Regular

Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Zapfino was the starting point, and you can see it in the tall ascenders and descenders and the swashed letters, carried over into Thai. Charmonman bears the name of Prof. Srisakdi Charmonman, who commissioned it as an extra on top of the 12 fonts of Thailand’s SIPA national fonts project. It made it onto the final list anyway: as TH Charmonman it was among the 13 typefaces the cabinet declared national fonts in 2010.
Ekaluck Peanpanawate, who also drew TH Krub, designed it. Cadson Demak, which revised it in 2018 along with the rest, recommends it for royal subjects and traditional occasions, where its formal thick and thin strokes fit.
2 weights, Regular and Bold, covering Thai, Latin and Vietnamese. The small letters are short against the tall capitals and extenders, so leave generous line spacing or the swashes of 1 line will tangle with the next.
