Tamcy built Chiron GoRound TC on top of 2 earlier fonts, Chiron Hei HK and Adobe’s Source Han Sans, the same design Google ships as Noto Sans CJK. So the bones come from the work of Ryoko Nishizuka on the ideographs, Paul D. Hunt on the Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, and Sandoll Communications on the Hangul. What Tamcy changed was the ends of the strokes, rounded off, and a careful review of the Chinese characters themselves.
That review is the interesting part. Source Han Sans has a Hong Kong set, and Tamcy went through those shapes and adjusted them toward the forms people meet every day on printed matter in Traditional Chinese regions, the modern style of the commercial typefaces, without tying it to any 1 region’s standard. The stated goal is a glyph set that looks normal anywhere Traditional Chinese is read, on screen and in print.
Each weight is a big file, 46,265 characters, and there are 8 of them from Extra Light to Black. Rounded strokes soften the Black nicely for a shop sign or a snack packet. For long reading we would choose the Regular.
