Convergence

2 designers with very different ideas made this one, and they put the difference to work. Nicolás Silva and John Vargas Beltrán set out to bring an upright sans and a sans italic toward each other until they met, without blending them into mush, and the name says where they ended up.

So the letters stand straight but several of them are built like an italic. The a, e and g follow cursive construction, and the r has a fairly closed instroke. Look at the bottom half of a letter and you find small transitional serifs; the top half finishes in plain sans terminals.

Their references were Bree from TypeTogether, Parisine from Porchez Typofonderie, and, at the root of it, Ludovico degli Arrighi’s writing manual on the humanistic cursive.

Contrast is low and the x-height is generous. There is 1 Regular only. We like it for menus and short paragraphs on the web, places where the cursive accent gives a page some warmth; a 40 page report in it would start to feel restless.
