Ge’ez survives today as a liturgical language. The script named after it carried Ge’ez between the 1st and 12th centuries in what is now Ethiopia and Eritrea, and about 18 million people still write with it, for Amharic and Tigrinya and the other Ethiosemitic languages, and for some Cushitic and Nilotic ones as well.

It is an abugida, running left to right, and it sets best where the software handles shaping.

Google’s Noto version gives it an even, unmodulated stroke in 9 weights from Thin to Black, with a Latin set to sit next to it. Thin and Black are for posters and shopfronts. Regular to Semi Bold will cover a news site or an app in Amharic.
