Kanit

Kanit’s stroke ends are cut flat at an angle. That small decision lets the letters sit closer together without the text clogging, so it stays readable at small sizes while setting tighter than you would expect.

The name means mathematics in Thai. Cadson Demak paired a formal loopless Thai with a sans Latin, mixing the motif of a humanist sans with the rounded-rectangle curves of capsule-shaped geometric faces, and the blend reads as contemporary, even a little futuristic. In loopless Thai the forms are simpler than in the traditional looped style, and the foundry took particular care over letter groups that are easily muddled, ก ถ ภ ฤ ฦ among them, drawing them so each one is distinct. Vowel and tone marks were sized and placed with the same attention.

There is a technical first here too: Kanit was the first Thai family hinted with ttfautohint.

18 styles, Thin to Black, each with an italic, and Vietnamese along with Thai and Latin. Our use would be headlines and branding with some energy to them, a sports app or an electronics shop, with Light or Regular underneath for the text.
