Arabic calligraphy is traditionally written with a bamboo pen. Mohamed Gaber imagined Naskh drawn with a brush instead, and El Messiri is that idea worked out: curvy, soft Arabic letters with wide counters.
The wide counters do practical work. They keep the letters open at small text sizes, while the finer details come out when the type is large, so the same family serves a paragraph and a headline. The Arabic glyph set covers Arabic, Farsi and Urdu.
Its Latin and Cyrillic came first, in a sense. Gaber started from Philosopher, Jovanny Lemonad’s Latin and Cyrillic typeface, and built the Arabic to sit with it.

We like it most for bilingual Arabic and English branding, where the brush curves of the Arabic give a name some warmth.
