A Note On The Page
Fuggles · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Hoppy pale ale on tap
Richard Fuggle cultivated an aroma hop in 1875 that went on to classic English brewing, and Robert Leuschke borrowed its name for this scribbly script. His own recipe for it: a little Inspiration, some Sassy Frass, a splash of Waterfall, then hundreds of alternate forms on top.
At first glance it looks crude. The alternates are where that changes. There are 11 stylistic sets, contextual alternates and discretionary ligatures, some letters quirky and others swashy or elegant, and with the right pairs a line starts to look written with care.
It is also very narrow, a line of Fuggles taking about half the width of the same words in Arial, and the lowercase is small under tall capitals. So it wants size, on a beer label or a cafe chalkboard. At text size we would expect a smudge.
Western and Central European Latin and Vietnamese are covered.
