Hand-lettered posters in the coastal neighborhoods of Accra are where Ga Maamli comes from, the sort that once announced a boxing match or a party among the Ga people. Afotey Clement Nii Odai, Ama Diaka and David Abbey-Thompson reworked that lettering into a full font with Sorkin Type, stretching the character set to Central European accents and Vietnamese while holding on to the swagger of the originals.
The lowercase stands nearly as tall as the capitals, so words read close to all-caps, which is how a street poster likes to talk.
1 Regular, 765 characters, with fractions and case sensitive forms. Google added it in June 2024. Put it on an event poster or a festival banner, and set it big.
