Banana splits for everyone

Thin, rounded strokes and a loose, cheerful build: Brenda Gallo and Gustavo Dipre drew Happy Monkey for informal headlines and fun typography, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything more serious. The letters are on the wide side, which helps the light strokes hold up in a headline.

The spacing and kerning came from Igino Marini, who built the iKern system for exactly that job. Dipre released his own slab serif with heart details, Gorditas, on the same day Happy Monkey went out.

1 Regular style with Latin Extended accents. Keep it big; a thin line like this fades at small sizes.
