Kunstausstellung im Rathaus
The yen sign in Federant has an unusual shape, and it is period-correct. Olexa M. Volochay and Alexei Vanyashin found that version in typefaces of the time and kept it.
Their source was Feder Antiqua, a Reklameschrift, or advertising face, that Otto Ludwig Nägele drew in 1911. The original did not have every letter a modern user expects, so the 2 designers went through historic type specimens hunting for the missing ones. Where faithfulness to Nägele and an even texture on the page pulled in different directions, they sometimes let the history go.
Cyreal published it in 2011, 1 Regular with Latin only, and a 2016 update repaired the kerning. We’d keep it for posters and book jackets that want a German advertising look from before the First World War, at 30 px or more.
