Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Between 2 scripts
Grenze is German for frontier, or border, and the font lives on one, the line between Roman letters and Blackletter. Renata Polastri at Omnibus-Type, the collective foundry in Buenos Aires, wanted the dark texture and punch of Blackletter with the readability of classical Roman shapes, and drew it as a text family for magazines.
So the skeleton reads as Roman, with Blackletter weight and texture worked into it. It also sets narrow, which suits columns.
There are 18 styles, 9 weights from Thin to Black with an italic for each, plus old style and lining figures, tabular figures and a slashed zero. Grenze was selected for the Tipos Latinos biennial in 2018. For the full Blackletter version, with more dramatic letters, Omnibus-Type later released Grenze Gotisch.
We’d use the middle weights for a feature article and save the Black for the cover line, where the gothic part of its character shows most.
