Today's special: lentil soup
The accents on Handlee were placed by hand, 1 at a time. Joe Prince could have let software generate the accented letters and instead positioned each mark himself, so they sit as unevenly as real handwriting does. He also drew them a little larger than usual, which helps when the font is scaled down.
Handlee is loosely his own handwriting. Letters sit at slightly different heights against the baseline, and the ascenders and descenders vary in length. Where letters overlapped without need, the overlap was trimmed, so small sizes stay legible.
1 Regular, 201 characters covering Western European Latin. A teacher’s class website or a café’s specials board would suit it.
