Hanuman came to Google Fonts in September 2010, months ahead of Danh Hong’s big batch of Khmer families. That batch followed in March 2011, Angkor, Battambang, Bayon and Moul among them, and he is now credited on 23 families there, nearly all of them for Khmer.
Danh Hong has spent many years making fonts for Khmer and other Southeast Asian scripts, and works with the KhmerOS project, which aims to let Cambodians learn and use computers in their own language. Hanuman is his text face: Khmer for reading at body size, drawn to pair with Latin serif fonts on the same page.
The name is shared with the monkey warrior of the Reamker, Cambodia’s national epic, who builds the stone bridge to Lanka.
The current version runs from Thin at 100 to Black at 900. For a paragraph of Khmer we would stay in the middle, Regular or Medium.
