Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Erin McLaughlin drew BhuTuka Expanded One as the Gurmukhi partner for Aoife Mooney’s BioRhyme Expanded Light, so a Gurmukhi line and a Latin line can share a layout and look related. The Latin in this font is very wide indeed: a run of lowercase comes out 56.6% wider than the same text in Georgia.

So treat it as display type, for short headings and poster lines in 2 scripts. For play there are swashes and 8 stylistic sets, plus a slashed zero, all in 1 Regular. It joined Google Fonts in January 2022.
