Karenni was the starting point, a Kayah Li design Khu Oo Reh worked on from 2016 to 2019. SIL International took it up, redrew the glyphs, added a Latin set of its own and named the result Kay Pho Du, with Victor Gaultney’s name on the work as well. It covers the full Kayah Li range in Unicode.
The weights go Regular, Medium, Semi Bold, Bold, so a school reader or a community newsletter in Kayah Li can have proper headings above its text.
The Latin is a quiet serif, there for mixed passages and transliteration. Kerning is the single OpenType feature, which is plenty for what the font has to do.
