₹, ₿, ₦, ₴, ₸, ₺: the currency row in this font runs on and on, and next to it sit fractions down to sevenths and ninths and a slashed zero. Somebody expected it to set money. That fits a typeface that is first of all IBM’s house face, the corporate type for the company worldwide, developed by IBM’s Brand & Experience team as an open project and drawn to read well in print and on screens.

The Devanagari member carries the usual Plex credits, Mike Abbink with Paul van der Laan and Pieter van Rosmalen of Bold Monday, and 1 more name, Erin McLaughlin. The Latin inside is the regular Plex Sans, so a Hindi line and an English one in the same paragraph share a weight scale and a tone.

Would we use it outside a corporate setting? Yes, for an app or a bank statement that has to switch between Hindi and English without looking pieced together. 7 weights run from Thin at 100 to Bold at 700, no italics, and 5 stylistic sets are tucked into the file.
