Thai is 1 of the scripts IBM Plex Sans has to carry, along with Arabic, Devanagari, Japanese, Korean and several more, because Plex is the corporate typeface of IBM worldwide. The IBM Brand & Experience team runs it as an open-source project. Mike Abbink and the foundry Bold Monday are the credited designers.
IBM’s brief was the relationship between people and machines, a theme the company has kept since the turn of the century, and Plex answers it with a grotesque that is neutral and friendly at once, plus a few engineered details that mark it as IBM. The wider family adds a Condensed, a Mono and a Serif, so the Thai has relatives to pair with.
7 weights, Thin to Bold, no italics. The file has a slashed zero, 5 stylistic sets and contextual alternates. It arrived on Google Fonts in June 2021.
For Thai product screens and documents in a company that already uses Plex in English, we would not look any further.
