Tep Sovichet had been designing type for about 2 years when Kantumruy went onto Google Fonts in June 2013. He co-founded Anagata Design in Phnom Penh, and this was his Khmer sans for both text and posters, on screen and in print. In the years after, it found its way into the identities of Cambodian companies and many NGOs.
This download is that first Kantumruy, version 1.300, in Light, Regular and Bold. You will find no Latin alphabet here: the 141 characters are Khmer letters, vowel signs and digits, with Western numerals and punctuation beside them. The glyph count runs higher, to 214, mostly because of the subscript consonants that tuck under a base letter when a Khmer cluster stacks, and the font’s shaping rules call those up on their own.
In 2022 Tep redrew it as Kantumruy Pro, with new proportions, italics and a Latin from Work Sans. The older cut still makes sense on a Khmer-only page, or next to a Latin font picked separately, since it brings no Latin of its own to clash with.
