Tonight only, the final reel
Iranian cinema in the 1960s and 1970s had a popular genre people called Film-Farsi, romances and musicals and impossible heroes, and its posters were loud by design. The lettering on them, heavy and full of swagger, was arguably the most important part of the poster.
Borna Izadpanah, a type designer based in London, built Lalezar out of that lettering. The source was Persian, but he drew the Arabic for most of the languages that write in Arabic script, and added a Latin companion with Vietnamese support so a bilingual poster can stay in 1 family.
There is a single weight, already very heavy, and it is a display face through and through. Set it big. A face this heavy has little to give at caption size, and the posters it comes from never asked it to.
