The mandal of Narnoor, in the Adilabad district of Telangana, is where the Gunjala Gondi script is being brought back into use, and the font takes its name from it.
It began as typographer S. Sridhara Murthy’s font for the Gunjala script, made at CDAST at the University of Hyderabad, and SIL International turned it into a proper Unicode font with its own additions. The Latin letters come from Adobe’s Source design.
For a revival effort, weights matter: a primer needs headings, a sign needs to be dark. The November 2023 update added Medium, Semi Bold, Bold and Extra Bold to the Regular, and made the Latin darker and smaller than it was in version 2. Google Fonts has carried it since 2023.
