The Latin came first. Eduardo Tunni had drawn a display face called Lemon, and he took it further for this project, out into a run of weights, while Mohamed Gaber, a type designer in Cairo who leads Lemonada, drew an Arabic to go with it.
Gaber started from Naskh and let some of the swing of Diwani into it. The counters are wide and open, so smaller Arabic text stays readable, and the finer details come out when you set it large. The character set covers Arabic, Farsi and Urdu, with Latin and Vietnamese on the other side.
5 weights in this download, Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold.
The Latin is very wide and has a big lowercase, the small letters reaching most of the way up to the capitals. A headline of 3 words fills a line fast. That suits a café sign or a juice bottle, Arabic and English printed together on the same label. For paragraphs we would look elsewhere, at least on the Latin side.
