Founded on the old harbor road

Roman inscriptions cut in stone are the source for Marcellus, and its serifs flare out of the stems the way chiseled letters do. Brian J. Bonislawsky drew it at Astigmatic, and it went onto Google Fonts in May 2012 together with a twin, Marcellus SC, which sets everything in small caps and leans closer to the titling style of Trajan.

The Regular is the looser of the 2. It has a real lowercase, for one thing, so a subtitle or a short line of copy can follow the name above it without switching families.

368 characters cover Western and Central European Latin, plus Turkish and the Baltic languages. Only 1 weight.

We would put it on book covers, a restaurant sign, a wine label, anywhere a classical title is wanted at 24 px and up, and leave the paragraphs to a quieter text face.
