The Latin in Alyamama was borrowed. It is based on UNAL Ancízar, an open-source typeface, and set beside an Arabic that Yazeed Omar drew in the classic Naskh manner with sharp, plain strokes and a measured contrast. Mestara Type, the foundry behind it, specializes in Arabic type and was started by a professional calligrapher, so the Naskh is the center of gravity here and the Latin keeps it company.

7 weights, Light at 300 to Black at 900. Mestara pitches it for advertising and signage as well as headlines and body text, which is a wide brief, and the weight range can carry it. We would put the Light or Regular under a long article and save the Black for a shop sign.

On the Latin side the cupboard is well stocked, with old style, tabular and proportional figures, fractions, superscripts and subscripts, case sensitive forms and discretionary ligatures. Greek is in there as well, 763 characters counting everything. Google Fonts added the family in January 2026.
