Every script-specific Noto Sans font, the Khmer and the Limbu and all the rest, needs a Latin to stand beside it, and this is the family meant to be that partner. Noto Sans itself covers Latin, Greek and Cyrillic in a plain, unmodulated design, with Vietnamese and a long tail of extended Latin, 3,094 characters in the Regular. The Monotype design team and Irene Vlachou worked on it for Google.
18 styles. Thin at 100 to Black at 900, an italic for every weight, and the italics come out slightly narrower than their romans.
Then the features, more than most people will ever switch on: small caps (capitals can be turned into them too), old style, lining, tabular and proportional figures, slashed zero, fractions, sub and superscripts, case sensitive forms and 4 stylistic sets. A report full of tables gets its tabular lining figures, and a book gets old style ones that sit lower in the line.
Is it exciting? No, and you should not want it to be. Its use is to turn up in every language a page might need and look like the same face in each. Google Fonts has carried it since February 2013.
