Box Drawing and Block Elements are 2 of the Unicode blocks in Noto Sans Mono, and for anyone who builds tables or progress bars in a terminal they matter more than the alphabets do. Corners, tees, shaded blocks and arrows all sit on the same fixed grid as the letters, so a text-mode chart lines up.
Google’s Noto collection describes it without fuss: a monospaced, unmodulated sans for programming code and anywhere else a fixed-width font is called for, covering Latin, Greek and Cyrillic. Each file here holds 3,490 characters, with Vietnamese, IPA, math operators, currency signs and a scatter of dingbats in the mix.
9 upright weights, Thin to Black. No italics.
The OpenType side is more bookish than you would guess from a code font, with small caps, old style figures, fractions, superscripts and subscripts. And a slashed zero, the one most programmers will switch on first, since 0 and O in a hash or a serial number have to be told apart at a glance.
We’d run an editor in Regular or Medium. Black can carry a monospaced headline on the cover of a technical report, if you want one.
