Version 3 of Noto Sans Thaana was redrawn in response to feedback from the community that reads the script. David Williams is credited with the design.
Thaana runs right to left and serves Dhivehi, the language of the Maldives, also used in parts of India, by about 350,000 people. Dhivehi has a Latin transliteration as well, and the font carries Latin beside the Thaana, plus Arabic characters, so a page can hold all 3.
Weights go from Thin to Black, 9 in all, which is generous for a script with so few readers. For most pages we would stick to Regular for text and Bold or Black for headings, and leave the Thin for large display lines.
