Thai type comes in 2 broad styles, looped and loopless, and Noto Sans Thai is the modern, loopless one. Google’s own description pitches it mainly at display work, packaging and ads, and that is where the clean heads of the letters make sense.
The script has been in use since 1283. It is an abugida with 44 letters for 21 consonant sounds, a close relative of Lao, and it needs complex shaping support in software to come out right. Besides standard Thai, Google lists the Northern, Southern and Northeastern forms, Pali, Kuy, Northern Khmer and Lawa among the languages this font serves.
9 upright weights, Thin to Black, made by Monotype for the Noto collection, with a full Latin set for mixed copy.
On a product box or a sale banner the Bold and Black are where it gets interesting. App text can stay at Regular.
