Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Soviet printers had a typeface called Obyknovennaya Novaya, the “New Standard”. Alexey Kryukov named his font Old Standard as the counterpart, since it reproduces a slightly different type of the same Modern, or classicist, style.
That style filled editions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and then almost vanished. Kryukov argues it still earns its place. Readers link its look with the old books they studied from, which makes it a natural fit for scientific papers, and the humanities and social sciences most of all. And the finest Greek and Cyrillic types were all classicist, so for those scripts he finds a Modern face far more fitting than anything based on Times.
He admits the name is not very original. It does tell you what you are getting: the most common type of the early 20th century, revived.
There are 3 styles, a roman with its italic and a Bold, and the character set covers Cyrillic and Vietnamese next to Latin. A journal article in Russian history, quotes in the original, would look right in it.
