An essay on gardens and walls

The italic is the part to try first. It is compact, about 11% narrower over a line than the roman, so a quoted title or a foreign phrase tucks into the text without stretching the line.

Barry Schwartz based the family on Frederic Goudy’s Goudy Oldstyle and released it in 2010 under his Sorts Mill name, a roman and an italic with extended Latin coverage. Small caps come with it, and so do discretionary ligatures, with stylistic alternates on top.

We would set an essay or a slim book of letters in it, a little larger than usual, since the lowercase is on the small side.
