Orienta was drawn for the bottom of the page, the tiny print where many faces start to clog. Eduardo Rodriguez Tunni gave it open spacing and a careful balance between the black of each letter and the white inside and around it, and that is where its legibility at very small sizes comes from.
Blow it up for a title and something else shows. The strokes carry a lot of fine detail, small shaping decisions you would never see at 9 pt.
Tunni, born in Buenos Aires in 1963, co-founded the Argentine foundry Tipo and spent 10 years on the teaching staff of the University of Buenos Aires master’s course in type design. The font carries Tipo’s vendor code. A February 2023 update widened the character set, added fractions and adjusted a few shapes. The project repository also lists Emma Marichal as a contributor.
1 Regular. For captions and the small labels in an app it earns its keep.
