Surf report: waist high, glassy

A vintage advertisement for the California Cliffs Caravan Park started this one. Brian J. Bonislawsky, who works as Astigmatic, took the lettering’s loose, holiday mood and made a sans out of it that stays plainly legible while refusing to sit up straight.

That balance is why it works. The letters are clean enough for a few lines of copy, but nothing about them is formal.

1 Regular, Latin and Latin Extended, with fractions and superscripts. Astigmatic is also behind Righteous, Yellowtail and Luckiest Guy on Google Fonts, if you want to see the range of the same hand. A surf school flyer or a beach kiosk menu is where Original Surfer feels at home.
