Thin strokes on top, fat swollen curves at the bottom: that is how the Kannada in Padyakke is weighted, and it gives the letters a planted, bottom-heavy look that suits a wide, airy design. James Puckett drew the Kannada at Dunwich Type Founders. The Latin is Aoife Mooney’s, from her BioRhyme Expanded, and the point of the project was that the 2 scripts should match.

So the Kannada borrows BioRhyme’s quirks. The bowls are a little idiosyncratic and the stroke endings are cut not quite at right angles, and you can find both habits in either alphabet.

How wide is expanded? Wider than a book serif by about half again, going by the lowercase, so lines get long fast and a short headline already takes a lot of room. That makes it a display face in practice, whatever its serif category says.

Inside there are 8 stylistic sets and swashes, more than you would expect from a single Regular, and 498 characters. It came to Google Fonts in December 2022.
