Notes From The Reading Room

The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.

A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Grand Opening of the Dry Goods Emporium

Below 32 px, the shadow in Vast Shadow falls apart. The foundry says so plainly, and they are right: the thin line that traces each letter is too fine for small text and turns into noise.

Above that, it is a fine piece of Victorian advertising type. Nicole Fally drew Vast as a slab serif with a sturdy, solid build and a little refinement in the details, and the Shadow version adds that offset outline for depth. The letters are very wide; a word in Vast Shadow takes a lot more room than in an ordinary serif, so plan on short headlines.

Sorkin Type published it, with a copyright from 2010, and Google Fonts added it in October 2011. 1 style, basic Latin.
