Pavanam is the Tamil word for wind. Tharique Azeez, a type designer in Sri Lanka, drew it as a Tamil and Latin pair that would stay legible small, on screen and in print.
The Latin half is borrowed: Azeez took Vernon Adams’s Pontano Sans and adjusted its proportions and vertical metrics so it sits properly with the Tamil.
