Road signs and the cast-metal lettering on industrial plates were Satya Rajpurohit’s models for Pilcrow, which takes its name from the paragraph mark ¶. Rajpurohit founded Indian Type Foundry, and the family comes in 3 versions there. Pilcrow and Pilcrow Soft are the other 2; this Rounded one is published through Fontshare.
The letters are squarish and mostly narrow, and the lowercase stands nearly as tall as the capitals, so a long passage starts to look monospaced even though every glyph keeps its own width. There are no italics, by design. Emphasis is supposed to come from the 5 weights, Regular to Heavy, and this download holds the Regular.
A news ticker or a short block of web copy suits it best.
