Cuban children meet 2 alphabets at once. Their reading books are set in print letters, geometric or grotesque sans serifs, the same across every textbook, while handwriting lessons use a fully joined cursive borrowed from American penmanship: the Palmer Method of Austin Palmer and the Zaner-Bloser method of Charles Paxton Zaner and his partner Elmer Ward Bloser.
Playwrite CU is the writing half. It leans hard, a very slanted continuous hand after Zaner-Bloser and D’Nealian, and its capitals are cursive too, with the I, J and G about as involved as letters get. The lowercase loops its medium-length extenders, even on the p and the q, and everything is formed with slow strokes. Look at the r, which takes an italic shape, and the z, flat on top with a loop below.

A Sunday lunch invitation suits it. The slant and the loops make for slow reading past a few lines, though.
