A Note On The Page
Playwrite CZ Guides · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Ema má mísu
Czech schools have 2 models to choose from. The older, Zjednodušená psací latinka (Simplified Latin script), is a continuous cursive the Czechoslovak ministry ratified in 1932 and last touched in 1978; the newer, Comenia Script, keeps its letters apart and got the ministry’s approval in 2012. The national curriculum of 2013 adds nothing further on handwriting, so the choice is left to each school.
That is the background to Playwrite CZ, TypeTogether’s font for the Czech model, and this Guides cut is its single weight companion with ruling built in. Behind each letter you get a baseline, an x-height line and lines for ascenders and descenders. Typing an underscore gives the lines alone, as wide as a word space.
Veronika Burian and José Scaglione did the design as part of Playwrite, which draws on the Primarium research into how primary schools teach handwriting country by country.
Our suggestion would be to keep both fonts installed, the plain Playwrite CZ for words a child reads and this one for the rows they copy out, since the guides get busy in a long passage.
