A Note On The Page
Playwrite ES · Regular
A short letter, set in the family.
Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

The b and the p have knots in them, little loops where the stroke crosses itself before moving on. Then the z, drawn in an italic manner, quite unlike the rest of the alphabet. Those details come straight from how children in Spain are taught to write, and Playwrite ES (España in full) keeps them.
Spanish primary school cursive is structurally joined but has no slant. Schools teach it in 1 of 2 ways. The hybrid version joins the lowercase and pairs it with simple, unjoined print capitals, and that is the version in textbooks from Cuadernos Rubio, Santillana Educación, Editorial Barcanova and Tekman Education. The fully cursive version has ornate, traditional capitals.
This font is the hybrid, a continuous cursive lowercase with roots in French models. Ascenders and descenders are of medium length with loops, and several lowercase letters start with a curved entry stroke. The capitals are simplified and print-like. Except the I, which has serifs.
TypeTogether, Veronika Burian and José Scaglione built it as part of Playwrite, the school fonts grounded in Primarium’s research into handwriting models around the world. It covers more than 150 languages written in Latin script, though it will look most at home on a Spanish worksheet.
There are 4 weights, Thin, ExtraLight, Light and Regular, all of them on the light side, which suits a model for tracing. For practice sheets with ruled lines there is a sibling, Playwrite ES Guides.
